Oh look a thread thats a suggestion about a suggestion. (yo dawg i heard you like suggestions)

Not sure how the playtesters/staff/admins work out there bug solutions.

But for just us general users i propose a new format of reporting bugs, and fixing them.

I suggest this because:

  1. Bugs are sometimes not bugs but are rather intentional.
  2. Bugs are reported multiple times.
  3. We know what bugs are being reported on.
  4. We know when we can stop complaining about bugs.
  5. We know what updates will come in future and how far off we are from a set goal.
  6. Newcommers know what the future of the mod is, (THIS WILL PREVENT THE 29KM LONG TURD BEING MENTIONED)
  7. Help with general Q&A.
  8. newcommers will not suggest the same thing again, (omega station and THIS WILL PREVENT THE 29KM LONG TURD BEING MENTIONED)
  9. Help save forum space.
  10. Help organize the forum.
  11. Help ease the workload of admins in long term.

One mod (non SOASE) that uses this method is TTW  for fallout new vegas/fallout 3 (mixes the 2 games into one) (http://taleoftwowastelands.com/).

Now down to the actual method, check out the actual page here:

http://taleoftwowast...ject/issues/ttw

But i would suggest keeping bugs, updates, and ideas suggested on separate pages.

I'd be happy to help with this if it should be implemented.

I'll post the playtester format

Course you won't have a version number.

Type of Bug (Ship Behavior/AI/Model/Research/Other):

Map Name [Not applicable to Research/Model bugs]:

Factions in play (UNSC/Cov/Flood):

Was there an AI present during the game (Yes/No [Not applicable to Research/Model bugs]):
If yes, was the game a locked FFA (Yes/No):

Is the bug reproducible (Yes/No [Not applicable to Research/Model bugs]):
If yes, please upload a save game of right before and after the bug occurs, or if this is not applicable, a save while the bug is occuring: Link to Save Game #1, Link to Save Game #2

Description of the bug (include images if possible):

SVN revision number:

Ah so if my suggestion if implemented it could be added in that format.

Its a good idea, but in most cases when a release is put out to the public all bugs have been found. Now this has not always been the case, the super destroyer incident is a good example of this. But this idea would function better if the mod was in earlier stages of development, but I commend you for trying! It was is a good idea, and we could get some use out of this in due time, time is what will tell!

As it stands I don't think the current format is bad, it's just a little hard to find topics regarding what has been and has not been reported mostly because some people don't know how to properly title forum posts.

I'd support a dedicated forum to posting glitches and just glitches.

As i said, it could also outline the future  of the mod, to give an idea of how long its going to take to do it.

I don't think that's fair since most if not all of the work is volunteer, putting a date just puts expectations and expectations can easily turn into a deadline, that kind of pressure isn't necessary.

No i mean a date of when it did start. Not a final release date.

Where i work we don't have schedules we just have to get the job done.

While I like the idea of more reports on their progress I'd hate to bother them with it given the amount of work they have to do.

While I got you here I have to ask, what's with your post count? -32712 posts

Are we really going to fight over post counts? Have there not been enough examples about what happens when people boast about it?

I wouldn't be surprised if SPECTRE has the highest post count of anyone, though a few senior devs and playtesters would compete for that. In terms of actual age he's also the oldest I've seen. (Unikraken doesn't count, time is warped as a result of the sheer mass of the creature).
