Australia is very much a nanny state. Americans complain there governement is trying to stop them from buying automatic guns and stuff. In Aus even things that look like guns are illegal. Replicas, Airsoft, and the like.

Fireworks were pretty much blanket banned after a slew of maimings. Apparently, the councils made it so citizens could request a permit for certain bays but the council never actual grants the permit there by making them illegal.
