So I have been playing the UNSC version of the mod for quite sometime and always when playing I wounder. Why is it that I am engulfed in Macs and Billions of Archer missile pods. but we're missing the key element of any UNSC fleet.

Battleship guns Destroyer guns The 105mms and the 50mms that are scattered across UNSC hulls. look at reach if anyone played they will remember when you were clearing an area and some dual barrel 50mm  guns of pure F*ck you sprang across the field and cleared the lz for the pelican.

I am just wondering why they are not in the game. They wouldn't be op. Seeing as though the covenant have shields, they have big plasma weapons of extinction and they have a much stronger force. You said you were going off of the books.

Meaning you have to outnumber them 3 to 1 to get an even fight. Even the brutes had to do that in halo 3 when you go trough the portal on earth and end up at the ring world The Ark. But with only archer missile pods and mac rounds and some aa cover. I just get the feeling of oomph that I should get.

now for the feedback.

For the most part the UNSC is balanced a bit.

people say they need to frigate spam and that'll work. Maybe against an AI but either way that won't work if you're using tactics. Which is a thing I really found intriguing about this mod.

Once I was facing a Legendary aggressive AI. Here's my story---lol

So the map plot was random generated. This huge 1 start system had only one way to get to me or my enemy. Planet star planet. That is the order you went through there was no other way.

well the AI got at me with 100 Paris class frigates 10 Halcyon s and and 2 Marathon class cruisers. Merely a scouting party compared to what he had elsewhere. So I decided to attach with what I had. The closest reinforcements were 18 planets away at my home base. There was no way they could arrive in time.

My fleet was 10 Halcyon's and 4 Marathon class cruisers.

We both had fully upgraded fleets btw

I played it tactically

The enemy was in one big line just leaving Slip Space. I split my fleet into groups. 5 halcyon's and 2 Marathons on each side.

The Marathons would sit back with their huge range and fire at the enemy from a far. The Halcyon's would get up close and personal.

The fight begins.

the frigates come in and they all fire the macs. That wipes out 1 of my Halcyon's instantly. The rest of my halcyon's open fire from 2 sides all their macs come flying in and completely kill 8 frigates at once and wound many many more as archer missile pods race through space and hit their targets.

my Marathons turned on an auto reload or something because they would fire as pop pop pop pop pop pop pop. Killing many frigates instantly or wounding them.  it finally got down to

Me 5 Halcyon's 4 Marathons left.

Him 10 frigates 5 Halcyon's no Marathons.

I attack the Halcyon's quickly with everything I've got and I murder quickly.  They take out 2 Halcyon's and leave me 3H 4M

I mop of the rest of the Frigates and come out of that fight with 3 Halycon's and 4 Marathons.

The odds were impossible but because I ambushed the moving enemy and use tactics while guerrilla attacking (attack and retreat Repeatedly) I won with minimal losses. Compared to losing an entire fleet.

and for the cudos to the developers.

Not in any other mod or vanilla space game has that been possible. Except for this mod and Ai war fleet command.

See the AA guns that ships are firing at fighters? those are the 50mm guns youre talking about. As for 105mm, no UNSC ship has a gun of that exact calibre due to the fact that each UNSC ship has a MAC

Yea, those guns are the "AA helix guns" in the ships stats, if you notice they may fire on a ship and not just fighters, but that is a somewhat rare occurrence. And frigate spam is really nothing more than a stereotype with some truth to it, yes large amount of frigates are best, but lets be realistic, how effective will your fleets be when they are just frigates? it may be a killing spree in the opening salvo, but after that they just get moped up by whatever ship did not die from the opening salvo. and as for your story, a very interesting read  :)

The helix gun is a gatling gun, this was phased out because a million and one 12.7 rounds are'nt as effective against say a phantom gunship as a M910 firing 1-8 50mm shells.

Id suggest looking at UNSC ship info cards then, because thats what the AA is

Ok fine I will refer to them as "the guns the paris frigates are armed to the teeth with in halo reach" Is that the kind of guns, i say yes.

Yep the ones where if you don't watch where the shell are going, you get hit and go flying off a cliff.
