This has probably come up before within the devs, but why not make the CCS a capital, a la the Autumn and Marathons, and make the RCS the spammable cruiser.

First, the Covenant are kind of lacking in capital ship variety (though I know the whole thing is kind of a work in progress, especially ability wise) while the UNSC have lots of options. It might be nice to have another one in the mix.

Two, I imagine this is at least partly by design, but the Covenant only have access to the DDS until you reach tier 6, at which point you need to invest some significant resources to build the SC, SD, or CAS. You could make the RCS a pre-requisite for the CCS (although that doesn't make sense chronologically), but perhaps make the CCS a tier 4 ship so the Covenant have some mid-game access to another capital.

Alternatively, the RCS could be the capital and the CCS the pre-req. Aside from the CAS and the SD, which are both late game ships, the Covenant don't have a good front-line, brawly capital ship. Making the CCS (or RCS) into a capital and giving it a handful of good pure dps abilities might help mix things up a bit.

However, I imagine the reason the Covenant don't have early-game access to lots of capitals is balance worries, so I don't know how that would play into this/make a big difference. It might be game breaking if the Covenant got a CCS at tier 3 and the RCS capital at tier 4. I suppose if that's the case, a CCS/RCS capital where it is now, at tier 5, would also mix things up.

It just feels a little bland starting with the DDS and then getting no new caps until tier 6-8, which require heavy investments in research.

assuming its even decided to put the RCS into the mod, it would end up being the capital variant instead of the CCS. CCS battlecruisers were the most common ship in the covenant fleet, and making the CCS a capital ship would severely limit how many would be buildable

As much as I would like to see the RCS, if it means limiting the CCS, then i vote it does not happen for obvious reasons.

that just means the CCS shouldnt be a capital ship, which is already the case

Thats my point, the CCS should not be limited because of its iconic value.

yes, but ASSUMING the RCS becomes a covenant ship in the mod (not saying it will be), it can just become a capital ship as easily as i can type up an entity file

After reading the replies, I totally agree that, as the most common ship in the Covenant fleet, the CCS probably shouldn't be a capital. It's an iconic ship and not being able to build them en masse would be weird.

However, I still think the Covenant need another frontline dps style capital, whether that's the RCS or something totally made up.

They could fill a similar role as something like the Autumn class. Decent damage, but very tanky (at least insofar as a ship can be tanky in this mod). Could even use that same passive armor boosting ability.

There is always the ORS Cruiser...... Kind of fits the role of a mid-game Capital.

This is talking about the RCS, which is a reinforced CCS. ORS and the CRS are 2 completely different ships.

I know, I just feel it is an acceptable solution to this lack of Covenant Capital ships.

Well, if it was going to be in the mod, I think it would be best suited as a starting capital ship, as the Cruiser destroyer. I think it'd be underused lategame unless your low on resources.
