I honestly don't have a problem with the plot device.

Its a plot device in the same way as Halo was a plot device, or the Infinity was a plot device; it was there to progress the plot. The design is annoying, but we see the same thing happening in a lot of other ships as well, such as the Charon class and the Paris class.

I honestly don't understand the amount of antipathy people are directing towards it. I have a feeling its a bandwagon thing, where people hate it because its cool to hate it. There's really no reason it couldn't be balanced and scaled to fit in the mod. That being said, its really not my decision so I guess I'll just have to go with whatever the team decides.

Although I'd be interested in knowing the positions people have on the plot device, and why they feel that way.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

To be fair; you make a well reasoned point. Personally I am completely apathetic towards the plot device. But for something to be so firmly denied so many times hints that it's almost a matter of principle by now. That said, I think the main issue is that scale is a serious point: if you just scale down the plot device, it becomes a CAS. On top of that, it's just too damn powerful, it can't be balanced with the mod based on halo lore, it's just regarded as invincible. I agree there's a little bit of double standards regarding the CCS and CRS issue when regarding the size but honestly it's just not worth the effort because it's so firmly embedded in the reasoning of the mod that it won't work. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet; exactly what the ship IS is kind of irrelevant, I'm personally more interested in what it does.

I can see what you mean about the amount of effort going into putting the plot device into the mod. As to your point on its invincibility, I do believe that adding it while being true to Halo lore would result in the equivalent of a space-faring rape bucket, but the same could be said of the Forerunner ships, even ones as minor as Keyships which have been shown to take several MAC rounds and presumably missiles from longsword fighters without suffering any damage.

Having said that, and thinking that this would probably be the best canonical choice for a Covenant titan (assuming one will be implemented, last I heard it was still up in the air), I do think that a fanon concept titan which achieves the same thing could work equally well.

My soul was lost long ago, I retain the ability to communicate with the outside world purely through the negotiated mercy of Canada, Sloose and Ember, and time-sharing energy with my fellow captives. The wifi hotspot Unikraken saw fit to install also helps.

The plot device may be the logical canonical choice but it's not the logical gameplay choice, but I think you appreciate that.
Also, I've seen mentions of a fanon Titan; don't get your hopes up, it's just not impossible. I don't want to pretend to have any idea what the official word is but it would be nice if it was one of these ideas that made it in.

Bungie's laziness aside the Covenant aren't know for their innovation so it wouldn't be likely they would design lots of different kinds of ships, just modify already existing ships. There are several examples like the plot device/CAS, and the CCS /CRS. Those are my examples.

[Don't take me serious]

I'd like to see a Super Heavy Duper plot device. Looks like the plot device but triple it in size. At least!

If you guys want the CSO so bad, here is a step by step guide!

  1. Go into the mod files
  2. Somehow messup the enitiys trying to resize and name them
  3. come here for help
  4. get shunned and cry
  5. continue to cry

This may be harsh, but in all seriousness

IT IS NOT MAKING IT IN

EDIT: Dianno said it before i could.....

I mean it doesn't have to be exactly to scale.  For example in Star Wars: Empire at War Darth Vader's 19 km long flagship is in the game, but it is more like 5-8 kilometers long in game.  An 8-12 km long plot device would be very possible in the mod.  Also does anyone know how easy a scaling mod like the Infinite Space mod is, I know in EAW its really easy you just change the scale factor.

That being said the mod team's status on the plot device seems to be on principle now if anything else.

What is the point of ship that is not to scale? It makes things weird, and size is not even our problem with it, it is the lazyness of bungie that tics us off.

Play Star Wars: Empire at War or even the original Sins.  The SSD, and even the titans in the original sins aren't really to scale.  And yes that is pretty annoying, but its also like this...the Covenant armada is one of the most diverse looking alien fleets in current Sci-Fi.

Mass Effect:

All Turian ships use the same model, same with Alliance and Asari vessels.

Star Wars:

Bad guys--> Triangles

Good guys--> Space dicks

And then in the Clone Wars

Good Guys--> Triangles

Bad Guys--> Space dicks

Star Trek:

Good guys-->Disks

Bad guys--> birds of prey.

The Covenant Carriers, Destroyers, battleships and Cruisers all have a unique design.  That's pretty awesome in my opinion.
