Does it ever explain why flash cloning and then using the flash clone to make an AI is illegal?  Its seem to me that you'd want the best of the best in war or not.

Have you ever seen the island?

The brain can't function properly without having a body first. Meaning you have to grow the rest of the human. For just the single organ it is possible, remember the UNSC hopeful?

Because evidently the UNSC has this weird thing about keeping a morale compass or something like that...

Presumably making an AI out of the flash clone is inhumane/painful and kills the flash clone...

Moral....compass what is that thing?

Also, Why does the UNSC caplain[sp?] about that but we're gladly willing to use children as super soldiers and replace them with flash clones? seems like they are confused about morality here.

You can see the limitations on the method of flash cloning, you can make copies of 75 kidnapped kids, you can create a copy of an internal organ for emergency surgery but you cant create replacement limbs for troops and spartans (James and Kat) thats another thing, they kidnapped those 75 kids and to make the clones identical flash cloned them on site, this makes sence for organs but how do the develope the skeletal structure so quickly, its fused mineral and cartilage that is constantly being built on, you cant clone mineral

All of Halsey's dodgy research is overtly sanctioned by the UNSC top brass but after the events of halo 3 they kinda thrown her under the bus and pushed all of the blame on her.

But why? that I never understood, is it just because of the bitterness the ONI head has for her or is it something else?

Because if they didnt blame halsey then the whole world would hold them accountable, some government heads would roll not to mention some prison time for anyone tied to it, safer to say halsey acted on her own. Mad scientist stuff.

Governments are weird. Back during WW2,there were two examples of this.
A: Alan Turing, one of the top British code breakers for the enigma machine used by the Third Reich was literally a top hero of WW2 since this allowed us to analyze troop movements and fortifications. He was given no credit and even public ally harassed and persecuted because he was gay.
B: Erwin Rommel was indirectly killed by Hitler himself for participating in a plot to dispose of him. He was possibly the German military's greatest officer in history and he was responsible for all of their victories in Africa. They lost front by front after this.

So either there is something about Halsey ONI does not like (in all honestly the UNSC/FLEETCOM does not give a single fuck and probably has their heads up their ass still) or Halsey is simply too smart for her own good. Regardless, since she lived and she pretty much designed Infinity from the bottom up, she probably put it some back doors for her alone to use. Basically making her a pain in the ass and a possible eventual destroyer of the Infinity. Like Roland, she probably put in extra override codes and such nobody knows about.

To answer OP, I don't like Roland as an AI and 343 will never replace Cortana with him, he's cliche as fuck and really annoying. The fact that he "overcame" the override code was incredibly stupid and just a plot device. Doubt it would be able to actually happen but you know, mini CCS cruisers, giant robots, and a lazily put together game.

I wasn't aware of the first one but the desert fox... one of the best ever, if only he didn't kill himself to prove his loyalty.

Also, back to Topic. I like Roland but he just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know if his appearance, His cockiness to seem human, or the fact him and many others onboard Infinity are assholes to Halsey.

Side-note: I find this totally bullshit of Halsey being in trouble, and them trying to Replace S II's as totally bull-shit, Spartan 2's as they age get stronger, faster, smarter, ect and Spartan 2's will never be out-performed or out-classed by newer Spartan models.

Crisiss, fantastic examples man. You're spot on with the Turing one, that's a really good way of putting it. The man was an absolute genius, helped us to defeat one of the most potent enemies our country has ever seen, and we basically bullied him to commit suicide. Absolute waste.

As far as Halsey goes, I don't know why the change of heart, I assumed her research was kind of unsanctioned but when it started saving people's lives people didn't care; that or they didn't know.

Spartan II's will have the advantage because they've been trained since they were 5 (much like the original Spartans). I see your point but I think SIV's are also going to get better as they get older, that's what experience is. The SII's simply have MORE experience from the off. As to why they'd phase them out, the sociopathy and slight illegality of them isn't a great propaganda tool. It's not their fault but, I mean, imagine if one of their parents recognised or somehow knew and started asking to have them back?

Roland is a bit cocky but most A.I. are. Cortana's just about the right side of confident but Roland's 'I could fly these ops solo' comment got to me too.

Eloquently written and great points. The new guy kicks ass.

Well, it's common for Governments to come down hard on perceived injustices after the danger has passed. Think of it like the CIA oversight committee after the allegations of Black Sites and waterboarding came out a few years after the public became disillusioned about the Iraq war. If the actions are drastic enough (no matter how necessary), there's going to be consequences later. In the case of Halsey, I'd assume she's on the burner for now until the Spartans are needed to (ultimately) take on the escalation of the Didact threat.

It would have made more sense if the government was run like present day, say if an ellected official dosent want his voters(the ones that put them in power) to find out some dark little secret that would risk their standing to stay in power, but thats not the case, isnt the Military running the government, and this is at a time were you dont want your allies ie the inner and outer colonies saying "Hey, the UNSC are monsters who kidnap children, experiment on them and brainwash them into becoming soldiers, think those insurgents have a point, im pulling my colony out from those butchers" the UEG would fall apart, they'd need to distance themselves from that kind of politacal suicide.

The military isnt technically running the government at this point but as Tue civilian government is still picking up its pieces the military is providing the order.

I like to think of the Current affairs of UNSC/UEG as a similar one to WW2 Britain. A temporary military dictatorship with absolute power to make the hard choices.

Lord hood is the Winston Churchill of his time, Lord hood was/is lord of the UNSC admiralty, (hence the honour title) and is effectively dictator, he has the authority to facilitate treaties, military deployments and possibly much more.
