Seeing as how incredibly powerful the Covenant war machine was, what do you think the biggest fleet/singular target would be that the combined governments of Earth could repel? All countries are assimilated into one and all fighters both militia and professional are forced into a cease fire to combat the threat. The Covenant is not allowed to glass for use any sort of large scale plasma bombardment (energy projector or plasma torpedoes, or conventional bombs) in their assault. They are, however, allowed pinpoint fire support (such as the Corvettes from Halo: Reach.) The objective for the Covies is to eradicate humanity, like usual, but must do it in a conventional manner. The objective for humanity is to repel any hostile ground deployments and destroy all enemy ships both in atmosphere and in orbit of Earth. Our primitive railguns will be allowed to be used although they are in the prototype stage, they will be given 1/2 the power of a frigate based MAC (32 kilotons equivalent of TNT) to sport. Singular country speculation is also allowed. Can they do it? Discuss.

I'd say the best we could do without nukes is a CCS. As for ground, we would probably lose.

Out-classed, Out-Gunned, Out-matched, Sounds like a honorable fight indeed. I figure we'd be driven underground and preform hit and run attacks.... possibly even lie and 'convert' to smuggle weapons onboard there ships.

Even with our nuclear arsenal, you think that? Odd. And to gigabyte agreed, CCS without nuclear weapons. But how about with nukes?

What did you think I meant by smuggling weapons onboard? Also If we're just trapped on earth [I think you meant earth vs Covies] Then we would just kill ourself if we lunched nukes.

Haven't you people learned?

It's obvious that Earth specifically has godly amounts of plot armor especially when it comes to any universe we create. :V

We'll pull something out of our asses and win obviously.

M4, that wasn't the question. The OP knows we'd be one foot in the grave from the first microsecond, he's wondering how much of a bang we'd go out with.

I reckon if we were REALLY FUCKING LUCKY. We could get a CAS. Smash that spindly bit in the middle and it's in trouble. The modular thing is a bugger though so as far as total destruction goes. CCS or CPV wouldn't be a bad shout.

Our conventional nukes would only be effective in atmosphere and even then would not be powerful enough to overcome their shields at the same time cause irreperable damage to our world's eco-system, keep in mind that at the time Cole was an ensign, ship board nukes were completly useless, the energy would quickly dissipate in vacumm and without any large mass or atmosphere the detonation could not generate enough force to be an effective weapon. the Innies would later solve this problem before the UNSC but as for modern day Earth- no such luck.

I know at face value it would look like a complete no win senario (much like the begining of Independance Day) but I would not count out our governments just yet, over the recent decades it has been suggested the existance of secret black projects whether it be UFO re-engineered craft or a giant honking space gun we may yet be surprised what surfaces to defend this world.

Or just make a fighter pilot kamikaze in its gravity lift as soon as it opens. That works fine as well.

I think think that only works if its  Randy Quaid, still, we could see what a windows 95 compatible virus could do to their computer systems :D .
