As we all know, the SoTP team is working to get Halo Rings, (FINALLY) into the game within the next update. What this means is that not only is this a major structure, along with the shield worlds, within the Halo Universe, but it can help out with the develpoment of the game. So here is what I'm thinking we should do in terms of the Flood.

Within the realm of Halo, the Flood have been a horrible parasite that roamed within the galaxy, until the Forerunners wiped them clean. What a lot of people don't know is that there were still flood within the Halo Rings. (And possibly within the Shield Worlds) What I'm saying is that instead of just a single world of Flood that can dominate everyone, what if there is no Flood until some faction within a game explores the Ring. Just like Installation 01, the Covenant searched within the Ring and unleased the flood. Why don't we put this within the game as well.

With gameplay mechanics, I propose that if you have flood turned off, you can still search a ring, (And with a chance of getting the flood) and have it get infested, but not spreading. If the Flood is turned on, once unleashed from the ring, it starts spreading within the galaxy, and the "Pirate" mechanic starts. With the placement of the Rings and Shield Worlds, we wouldn't need to have the flood start off on a regular planet, making the game a lot more lore friendly. That's just what I think should happen for the development of the game.

I've already brought this exact idea up, not feasible with the Sins engine.

So you can't spawn ships based on searching planets for artifacts?

No. I brought this up a while ago, search the Halo ring and the Halo would change ownership and Flood ships would spawn. Like Uni said, not possible.

Nope. You can only search a planet when you take ownership and spawning ships after that, if we could, would have that ownership applied on them, but even then planet bonuses and artifacts like that can't spawn ships.

Actually, I just thought up a possible way. Really, really hacky way, but it just might work. More on steam later

Perhaps have a invisible entity spawn on flood worlds that has a ability on autocast can spawn flood ships which is not enabled until a faction gains a "flood discovered" relic or something along those lines when a planet with a halo ring is explored?

wouldnt work, you cant have an ability not on autocast and switch unless its a player doing so

I meant as in its on auto-cast but not enabled until any player has unlocked a certain relic, akin to unlocking an ability through research.

that would work if the flood were the ones who captured the relic, and pirates dont search planets

Nope, he's got it. Assuming there's a buff that spawns pirate controlled ships. I could've sworn there was...

In rebellion TEC Rebel broadcast centres call in pirates, (with appropriate research) though they're on your side.

Edit: Also Returning Dark Armada does that, can even spawn capital ships if you're looking for that special moment to make people crap themselves.

When i Play with the flood i found the Ai didn't behave like it would in halo universe, because they acted similar to the Sins of a solar empire pirates. Im not sure if if anyone noticed or im just crazy, But the flood spread out to the nation with the highest bounty, then they go back to the flood world. I think they need to spread out and infect and jump from world to world. The ships should be using something like a modify scout auto-explore mechanic. How ever i could be wrong, Been a while since i played with flood on.

I believe there is a way to disable bounties.

The bounty could simply be reworded to "Flood Ops" or something, funding a group which serves to make an enemy appear to be a better and juicer target.

But flood should spread natural not forced/pushed to one faction

Agreed, but if it is not possible to both have pirates and remove bounties then it is a potential solution.
