Ok, as of now in game the flood are a nuisance, They hold no threat to bigger fleets and as long as you can destroy what comes to the planet you can essintialy destroy all the flood in game and just avoid the planets youv taken from them, then rebuild all that you had to burn. I suggest you make it so the flood start to use what theve taken.

They took the ship foundries?

they can create more flood pure forms using the biomass of the planet and slowwly create a fleet,

They took a trade Building?

and they send small flood swarms to other trade stations infecting everything in its path

They took research buildings?

then exspect to see a lot larger flood pure forms.

a Flood titan would be awsome to see.

heh..no pls.  It could be a decent idea if played on a map solely placed on exploration and expansion. where then you would encounter the flood, which would then slowly take over your empire. it would make a nice survival game-type... but this mod isnt about that sooo yeah... and to edit the pirate faction(flood) for just one map/game-type would be game breaking for normal games run with the flood enabled.

a good portion in this mod is to be in cannon with the actual lore of halo, the flood exspanding and slowwly turning into a large swarm of somthing impossible to fight is simply apart of that as the flood.

Having two groups of players fighting each other and then both having to split resorces into flood and the enemy can cause all kinds of havoc for those who play adding the gameplay immersion, not takeing away.

And then having them forge alliances to help combat this new and devastating threat.... YES

this sounds interesting and pure canonical so why not?  soooo Make the flood even more deadly :)

This is illegal. You aren't allowed to make profits out of Halo assets.

Well technically... its not illegal but would probably result in a lawsuit since the SOTP team is not paying royalties to microsoft and the subsidiary 343 for monetization of the universe they own.

But then they would also have to pay Stardock  and ironclad for using its software and monetizing on it.

If Local Haole Studios had a legally binding contract from 343, Microsoft, stardock and ironclad saying that monetization of SOTP would be split between them, then they could, but since its a pain in the arse and  Local Haole Studios would probably be lucky to receive 20% of profits, maybe as little as 2%.

There is the option to donate to either the forums or Sloosecannon's bandwidth if you'd like. That's the next best thing (and the only permitted thing) to donating directly to the team. If you can find the post Unikraken made entitled something like 'The future of the forums' then that has a link in it, plus you get a snazzy nameplate.

Edit: Here's the link

Alternatively Sloose has a donate button on his profile but I think the forums are probably your go-to donation!

They actually go to the same place. The bandwidth fund has been transformed into the run-the-forums fund...

BACK ON TOPIC

With this idea being about making the flood a deadly force there would need to be a new way to combat them.

Maybe add a upgrade to where construction ships could burn flood off buildings instead of you needing to destroy and rebuild?
Also adding a function for special ships to radiate flood infested  planets preventing recolonization for a time but also allowing you to clear the flood off your planet for  a good amount of time.

COvies could have glassing which would take a little more time and cause the planet to be taken back at a sooner time

humans could have nuking which would be faster but make retaking the planet a little bit of a wait.

So... this topic is interesting as... Thus far the flood have been far more than a simple annoyance. Hell I could only stop them with the fully upgraded anchor stations. So they are already deadly, and can already colonize worlds etc. But they don't seem to be very intelligent... In that, they simply swarm, and destroy. Before the more impulsive people start yelling at me that the flood DO indeed swarm and destroy because that is their thing... There is more to this.

In the halo lore. The flood gain the intelligence of any individual they absorb. The flood are also a collective mind that can function to some degree on its own, but functions far better with a grave mind. The grave minds do not travel with the flood, they are constructed by the flood forms. For example. Halo one, remember the scene, inside of the infected "Truth and Reconciliation", you know the one I mean. Where captain keys is inside of that strange fleshy sac, and John punches into his skull and takes his implanted chip... That was the beginnings of a grave mind. The flood gather the more intelligent of the lifeforms they find, and feed that biomass into the sac until it grows into a grave mind. Once fully formed the grave mind is completely invulnerable to everything except starvation (IIRC)

So... The flood learn as they absorb, in halo 2 they learned how to fly space ships, by absorbing pilots. They learned how to fly high charity to earth, by absorbing pilots. The point being that they LEARN.

So feasibly, absorbing technicians and engineers aboard a frigate factory, would enable them to construct those frigates, in their infected form of course. So if they took a titan factory... I don't think they would construct a grave mind, I think they would instead use it to construct the biggest, meanest spore dispenser you've ever seen. (Flood Guardian + Spore Carrier + A whole bag of all the steroids)

As for making them use this knowledge. I think they should have two different flood types in the game. The "Pirate flood" which is the current flood, which functions independently of player actions, and does what it currently does.

The other should be a faction, allowing you to set an AI faction as them (while keeping them unplayable by the player) They would have a grave mind as a capital world, and would operate more like an intelligent AI, the bonus of having them as a faction is that you would be able to set their difficulty and the amount of them beginning in the galaxy, to tailor to your scenario.

Sounds like an egregious AI work around for what is basically a non issue.

If it makes you feel better though, Vd is still working on improving the Flood.
