I feel like it would make more sense if the valiant would be one step after the marathon in the research tree seeing as it is just an upgraded marathon cruiser..

Balancing purposes. Also because of the time period the mod is set in. Admiral Cole is still alive right now.

Also it would suck if you just had to use a Pheonix class refit for your first capital. Despite the fact that the pheonix class being (IMO) the best capital ship for starting gameplay get in colonize worlds get free extractors as well and move on to the next planet quickly.
