I would have to vote no to this idea. As someone with no great knowledge of the Halo universe, and thus not to much attachment to any specific ship type or plot device, I think it's to much work for far too little gain. I mean, having the modellers build a full model just to have it float through space as the wreckage of an unuseable, unplayable ship? That just doesn't sound like a good use of the modellers talents.

Making the wreck is not that hard to be honest... my "demonstration" just took me about 5 minutes. ( I would totally flesh out the real thing and make it look awesome)I would have to vote no to this idea. Beyond the "Plot Device" argument, I'm not really seeing this idea as fitting with the lore. It just doesn't make sense to me that the Covenant would leave the wreckage of their biggest class of ship without trying to salvage at least some of it.
In terms of reception, I have a feeling that it would be seen as a tease to those that are looking forward to seeing the plot device in game. And not the good type of tease.
If you and the Devs think it's a good idea then go for it, but I'm just not sold on it.
Personally, I'd rather see the Forerunner Fortress ship in a position like this.

That thing would certainly be awesome. Yet I have to see a convincing awesome concept of it though.

Yeah, the only art we have of those things, is in the scale diagram by Darkstorm. Maybe we can ask him about it.

that thing reminds me more or less of the Destiny from Stargate Universe.

I voted yes, the team would only need to put in as much effort Bungie did (as in, not much).
I'm actually completely indifferent to the plot device, but I do really like the idea of more unique planet types, makes exploring a map more fun. Easter eggs definitely increase replayability.
The planet type should have a chance of being named Plot Device, if possible.

If possible, you could put it in orbit of a volcanic planet (or a glassed planet) and name it Saepon'kal and make it the graveyard of the Combined Fleet of Righteous Vigilance.

Or, we could just throw it's model into a normal Starship Graveyard.
If it's at all possible to control the spawn rates of debris in them, throw a Super Carrier in there as a rare occurance. It'd be neat.

I'm all for more planet types(even if it is a unique one)

I do know of a way to do this; theoretically we might be able to make the entire debris field be randomly generated.

Maybe the CS-O could be a neutral capturable wreck that has an enticing bonus and it also could build strike craft. Make whatever system the CS-O is in guarded by a large covenant fleet. Maybe you could also find a subtle way to poke fun at the CS-O's status as a plot device?
P.S What ever happened to the part of the CS-O caught in the Slipstream bubble? Did it appear in a far away star system, something like the Forward Unto Dawn?

I believe, without any sort of destination solution or actual intent to use the portal to travel, it's just stuck in slipstream space and probably ripped apart.
