So since Warzone is an entirely new addition to Halo with the other gamemodes having had something similar to them in the past I figured a seperate impression thread was in order.

So far here is what I do and do not like (personal opinions)

Like

  • The bosses both major and minor are a interesting thing to do if your team is reqing(ha ha ha. I'll stop) the enemy or your getting wrecked and the minor ones make for an easy way to get more req points. The major bosses like the Warden and such provide a very interesting way to snatch victory for the jaws of defeat.
  • The little into at the start is fun, getting to jump out of a pelican is neat and the clearing the base before advancing allows you to nearly reach req 3 if you play it right which will allow access to the BR and Shotgun.
  • The vehicle spawn system is nice since it allows you to be able to spawn with out getting insta splasered or rocketed.
  • I like the way loadouts are done. You start with an AR and magnum and as you get higher reqs you get better weapons (DMR, BR, SMG etc). Typically I go for Longshot BR (DMR scope on BR. The one I use comes with a longer barrel as well making a burst sniper effectivly) with a Long Barrel SMG.
  • The gametype feels very much what I feel a casual Halo game type should have been since I first started playing Halo. You have players going after bosses and Covenant and others taking bases and attempting to keep enemy players away from owned bases. Vehicles galore once req levels are high enough make things interesting since ghosts and gungooses seem to the primary way to get around with Scorpions and Phaetons showing their faces near the end typically right before the Warden enters.
  • Hunters are fucking monsters on the field. It often takes a lot of men to down the two on Apex 7 and will often delay the taking of the spire by several minutes since no power weapons of good power are not out yet and flying vehicles are non existent.
  • I feel REQ packs are well done for a micotransaction item. I can a gold or two silvers after 45 minutes to an hour which I feel is fair. Although I would like more then some mongooses and an overshield.
  • The REQ point system is also decently well done with only some items needing point readjustments. Although I haven't used powerups at all since I'd rather have a sniper instead of a speed boost or overshield.
  • Marines are vicious little bastards, keep them like that. It is easy to die them if you attempt a rambo. Their ARs will chew you up.

Not Like

  • The way base capturing works. Lets say you are playing March on Stormbreak. Your team controls East Armory and Fortress bases while the enemy only controls West Armory. I feel that the enemy should have to take Fortress before East Armory can be captured. Once the enemy were to capture Fortress then West Armory is locked from your team and cannot be captured. I personally feel it would be better that way but maybe thats just me.
  • When Palmer says killing the Warden will win the match for whoever kills him, END THE FUCKING MATCH when he dies. To make it so its not a easy victory increase his health by a fair bit so someone can't just roll up in a scorpion and lolfuckyou the Warden. Also give him a better escort. I don't think the Warden would come in with just two knights, he would probably have 3 or 4 that are armed with a bit more then scattershots. Warzone and Wargames is supposed to train the IVs right?
  • The way boss killing works. It works as of now that whoever deals the killing blow has the points dealt to their pool, while this isn't a problem with minor bosses it is a problem with majors like Commander Luchagos or Tankmaster Rok. Basically I can sit near the boss with say a Railgun or Sniper(both fairly common for my groups and I) and as soon as the boss is weak enough I can steal the kill from the enemy team. What I think it should be like is that who ever deals the most damage should have the boss kill awarded to them. For the Warden it should apply.
  • Currently Req level 9 is useless unless you were lucky enough to get a Phaeton Cert. I think they should add some more level 9 items. One possibility I was thinking of was a Grizzly.
  • For the love of god please get Palmer's VO to record some lines for my team. Such lines should be like so "YOU MORONS GO TAKE THE DAMN BASE WARRANGER JUST CLEARED, STOP JACKING OFF AT HOME BASE" or "YOUR REQ LEVEL 8 BRING THAT FUCKING BANSHEE OUT YOU MORONIC MOTHERFUCKER SO YOU DON'T LOSE" and my personal wish "MOTHERFUCKER YOU GOT A SPLASER USE IT ON THE WARDEN, DUMB FUCK"
  • Have either Palmer alert us or a message pop up telling us if a base we can't see the marker for is under attack. Often times I'm across the map unable to see the home armory and then it comes under enemy control. I would also like to see a decap and then a cap phase for bases.

When I die, please bury me deep! Place an MA5 down by my feet! Don't cry for me, don't shed no tear! Just pack my box with PT gear! 'Cuz one early morning 'bout zero five! The ground will rumble, there'll be lightning in the sky! Don't you worry, don't come undone! It's just my ghost on a PT run!”

Veni, Vidi, Vici!
