Let's have a discussion about mines here. General consensus seems to be that they are currently overpowered. What should we do with them?

I really don't have a problem with the mines, there are ways around them and there are ways to go through them.

well, the idea of the UNSC having nuclear mines is canon, and i think it will help against covenant, but i know for a fact that the mines used by the UNSC were definitely not shivas, while the mines currently in the mod have the effect of a level 1 shiva... can that be heavily nerfed?

Take them off the tactical slots completely. If we have them at all, make them droppable by prowlers/scouts so that way they serve some sort of late game purpose.

Make it so there's less (probably 1) in a group and make them like a Shiva I guess, if that's all possible

Emphasis on HEAVILY

This. And Jrspartan mentioned offhand that maybe removing the icons to make them harder to spot might be a good idea. In a sense, I agree with that, but others may not.

My suggestion is this: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/HORNET_Mine

Instead of having a layered effect it will do sub-shiva damage/effects and be a researchable item that only prowlers can drop. They would ideally cost antimatter and maybe crystal? Dunno, just don't think one should be able to drop them all over the place. Removing the icon would be nice too. You'd still be able to select them if you highlight the right area, but it would basically take minesweeping efforts on your part to find it.

They are far too valuable of a tactical tool to just get rid of :o. I would agree though that they are over-powered. It would be cool to lower their damage, but allow more per gravity well. I dunno if the later is possible though. Id settle for a damage decrease though. Just don't axe them. not yet at least

Yea. Go prowler dropped only. No icons. Cost crystal and anti matter. Have to be researched and you can only have like 5 a system also shouldn't be t nerfed "destroying twelve and damaging four Covenant warships." So all the mines in a system should only be able to destroy like 12 covy ships. Also make it so they can be shot by any ship at any time but only when they are specifically targeted if that is possible.

They're 100% fine as they are now. Without them planets can easily just get steamrolled. As for the damage it's too low at the moment, anyway. Current minefields are more of a deterent than an actual viable sole defender. Just how they should be.

Well then, you get anincentive to not try and storm through a minefield, don't you. Forcing people to try and outflank or employ a smarter tactic.

But when you jump into one and the ships aren't responsive enough and/or maneuverable enough to move out of it effectively. The disable part is super annoying. The damage is good though. Maybe not the range.

I think the droppable only option would be the best route to take as this would fit in quite nicely with the Halo canon.

Keep them as is. You'll be glad that they're there once the Covenant and the Forerunners arrive.
