refit UNSC Charon class frigate idea(to mods)

sexy, i believe shielded ships will be added but new models, is that possible? To switch the old charon model to that one ingame with research? would be cool late game research though.

And to elaborate, most likely only as ships that can be called via an ability by the Infinity. The original Charon-class will most likely retain its place in the lineup.

The frigate idea could work like the multiple choice you get for starbase squadrens, 2 types of sabre and two of the Longswords, the infinity squadren menu could have 2 types of broadsword along with the new frigate as a squadren, perhaps not taking off the maximum aloud fighter count.
I believe the frigates seen in spartan ops are too small and underpowered to generate their own shield, more likely the infinity is extending its shields around them.

the Unrelenting could generate its own shield and it wasn't very big, plus the UNSC shields in Halo 4 are way better then the covenant shields.

No. The frigates will not be strikecraft. The ships will be assumed to generate their own shields.

The idea only occured to me because of an existing titan ability in rebellion were the titan's shields are extended to protect only the ships in close proximity, but I guess having them self sustaining and independant does solve a few issues and allow them more freedom. Perhaps give the infinity a frigate construction ability with only one ship option, shouldnt be too difficult if we can make a covie starbase move and build ships, shame it wond be able to re-deploy them like in the spartan ops fmv. Will these new frigates have a unit cap or a vulnerability otherwise it will make the older charon class a waste of time and rescources to build since the newer ones have shields and can be churned out of the infinity as needed.

No. The new variant will be few and far between, also serving its own role.

by any chance are you thinking of the ability in the mod Maelstrom where the replicators faction makes those hord frigates and they stick around for a while before being destroyed?

Well that is what happens in real life, why would they build the non shielded versions when they don't need to? But only ONI will get the ability to build these right?

No, the ability will spend a/m, credits, metal, crystal and then two frigates will jump in to the system from out of nowhere. They will stick around.
