The cloak would help against snow, icing and frost. Arctic conditions are very different to the vacuum of space. I'm not saying it would be a huge difference but it would help. And yes I know the cloak was for suspense, I am just trying to justify it plot wise.
He has shields, there would be no weathering regardless the conditions. Snow does not blow off sand dunes, either.

Did he have shields though? Maybe that is why he had the cloak. His armor has seen better days after all.

I'm pretty sure the trailer is entirely for the reveal.

Obviously. I guess I am just trying to rationalize the trailer.

The UNSC isn't going to let MC off without at least checking through his armor. They at least owe him that.
This really isn't a trailer to rationalize.

That's another thing I don't like about the trailer: his visor is cracked. If he's on a ship with hundreds of other Spartans, he could easily have his armor fixed. There's just no reason for him to be out there alone.

It's possible he just left. Or he was lost. There's no telling how far into Halo 5's story this took place. We'll have to wait for more info, that they'll undoubtedly release eventually.

Speaking of armours and gears, did you notice he isn't carrying weapons at all? I mean maybe they're hid under the cloak, but it seems that he's defenseless.

Can anyone remember that old leaked 343 test futage/animatic of an unknown character using telekinesis pulling someone through a wall? I'm now wondering if that was the Masterchief, the Librarian has accelerated his evolution, what if that was his abilities begining to manifest and ONI had him restrained to experiment on him, he then escapes and is on the run and therefore branded a traitor to discredit him, to borrow the line from The Dark Knight- "You either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villian" I suppose for some Halo fans the original MC they remember dies after Halo 3.

Course this could all be B.S. but I guess time will tell.

Because the UNSC would let one of their strongest assets go. Well I mean I guess it's possible since Lasky did it in Halo 4...

It wouldn't be hard to be inserted for a mission and then just disappear.

Chief actually seems to be alone the majority of the time. Usually his support is slowly separated and killed while he presses on.

Well, that gives another reason for the cloak
maybe he was using it to cover up his armor, preventing air recon from finding him. Similar in function to a ghillie suit worn by snipers

Actually it was Lasky that let him take a Pelican and go, please go back and play Halo 4.

He has a fusion reactor on his back. I don't think a cloak would prevent air recon from finding him.

Lasky was ordered to sent a pelican after chief to forcefully bring him back, instead he gave chief the pelican because he believed what the chief was saying about the didact. Please go back and play Halo 4 because i remember those cutscenes like the back of my hand.
