This is a early game-ending strategy that exploits the Halcyon early tech requirement along with its tanking ability and its bombing capability.

From games i have played in the past i am able to fast tech to halcyon which will give me better ships than my opponent and still be able to bomb his planets without compromising my fleet composition. I just think that the Halcyon is too much of an edge in the early game according to where it is in the tech tree.

I propose that it should be pushed back in the tech tree or the ships itself should be nerfed.

One possibility is that the bombing capability should be research higher in the tech tree.

What do you guys think?

It should be noted that the halcyon has been nerfed considerable compared to the public beta version. Its not nearly as good as, say, a thanatos or marathon

Perhaps add research called the "UNSC Ship Refit Act" or something along those lines that buffs ships when researched, so the ships would start off weaker and get stronger to prevent rushes like this?

I never experienced a Halcyon rush so far, but I can see they are somehow cheap and can stand a fight with a bigger ship, I think they are ok this way.

It cant bomb. It does around as much damage as a frigate after missiles take effect, it costs more. Thats a relic of older times. The halcyon is good for early fleet support and is good in that you can have more of them spread over your fleet unlike the marathon now. It has a lot of health but you could buy more frigates for that price, or use the extra money you didnt spend halcyon spaming and buy some defenses and tech to destroyers and LOL your way to the bank

What do you mean it can't bomb? I had a fleet of 20 Halcyons and a couple of Marathons and when they took the planets defenses out I saw them bombing it.

It's been changed so they can't anymore.

Dianno is a developer, red name, might he be saying that's been changed in the developer version for next release?

If my memory is still working, I think you can produce two Paris or four Charon instead of a Halcyon, and they usually die in one MAC round. It's hard to research something twice, for you need Thanatos to research Halcyon. As you said Halcyon is at its best in the early game, and you don't really want to waste money on defense at the very beginning of the game, you already have SMAC stations.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Halcyon is the ultimate weapon, but it is a walking tank and before you can start producing Eion and Marathon, you want something better than a Paris.

And I want fans who appreciate canonically correct fleet composition.

We don't always get what we want do we? :P
