well then, thats your first problem! Sins of the Prophets is ALL about choke points. and that map has none, it is a powerhouse and is really bad for the mod (in my opinion) but also, controlling asteroid belts is more of a bonus, dont relly on them, only use them. UNSC players can usually get a empire going without them, but they are most certainly a welcome bonus.

They'd use a fleet rather than a platform. Think of the north sea oil rigs in a similar respect. You're not gonna build a bunker to defend them. You're gonna use a fleet instead.


Good analogy. You focus your defences where they're vital, not just wherever you might need them. The anchor station is one more defence than your enemy has but it just doesn't deal out damage. You can still get to spamming those Parises ASAP.

For your current predicament though you could use the asteroids as a base of operations and construction/repair yard for your advancing fleet and just take the planets around it.

I would not recommend that, actually no, I cant say that. That tactic would relly heavily on the map for it to work.

Actually, you'd be right on that.  Didn't think hard enough on it.  It's simply a tactic I usually use and is good for situations like this that I've come across.  Since you can't fortify the belts like you can planets, I usually turn them into staging areas for my expeditionary fleets and ensure that there's a good buffer zone around them before I concentrate on a different sector.

good to know. You be surprised how good such stations can be. I made a map for STA3 on the very concept of starbases.
