How does it work anyway, do they ask you or do you ask?
I really wouldn't know, Never asked, If given the choice i would say no, i can't just pick up a game and say. I HAVE TO PLAY. I have to want to play it.
Both have happened - you're more likely to get it if you wait for us to ask you though.
So how does someone become a play tester? Do you like need to jump through 5 hoops made by Uni? Do you need to like beat all the mod creators in one match while also fighting flood and a impossible AI with no upgrades or reasearch stations for yourself?
Or do they just say "Rule 1 bla bla, Rule 2 bla bla , Rule 3, bla bla, and Rule 4 bla bla. Follow those and your hired"
We don't have any hard and fast rules (yet), but we generally look for good forum members who don't cause drama, and contribute to the discussions of the forums.
Mod team members from other mods tend to get in automatically (Modding Personalities), as do sibling mod team members (CaW and HHF).
In general, just contribute and don't be a pain.
This is a general overview of the process for those interested:
A dev posts a nomination in the Playtester Nomination thread in the Staff-only section.
The "Council of Devs" (a group of us on steam when there are enough, usually includes at least me, Uni, or Canada) approves the nomination.
We do a "review board", talking to the potential playtester about any concerns (Examples would be other accounts created with the same IP, or other anomolies in your time here).
After you pass the "review board", you're added to the playtester group and given access to the private Git build of the mod.
So,
Good:
Add/suggest good quality content.
Be friendly with the devs
Hang out with us on Steam/Skype/play Sins regularly (if you don't screw up, this is almost guaranteed to get you in)
Bad:
Cause trouble on the forums
Annoy a dev
Piss off a dev
Do troll-y things like make additional accounts or stuff like that
Fight about the CSO
Piss off an admin (don't do that)
