Space Elevators.

The structures seen on the planet (within their atmosphere) are called space elevators. 

 

Is it possible to replace those, and mod them?

 

The ships flying in and out of them? Perhaps turn them into Civilian transports or cargo ships?

 

If not then just leave em cause they still seem to blend in well. :)

Yes you can replace them. They're just sprites. The only problem is that no one knows what the top of an elevator looks like. Also the elevators are universal to all races so UNSC elevators could show up on covenant worlds. Unless I'm wrong here, but I've seen the texture file and it is one file.

As someone who plays a fair amount of vanilla, I'm pretty sure they each have different ones. I specifically remember the Vasari having installations that hover over the planet due to them enslaving the local populations. Probably done to prevent slave rebellion. Can't remember what the Advent had, though. Pretty sure they are different though, as the sprites aren't there when a planet is neutral.

It seems all 3 factions use the same 3-4 space elevators
