What is the purpose to this ship? What is its role? Other ships have roles such as carrier, planetary assault, what is this ones job? I see that it has smart ai to increase range on all ships, is it used for sniping?

The description and its large amount of 'eatshitanddie' nuclear weapons I'd say its used for mainly ship to ship fighting and putting holes in large enemy fleets.

the orion has twice the range of every other UNSC ship and has the second most power MAC of the faction (second only to the SMAC platform). it is meant to rape stuff

It's the cap-killer. While the other guys are fighting in the melee, the Orion snipes the capitals and nukes the rest.
It and the Supercarrier are undoubtably the best ships in the UNSC

It KILLs capital ships however if you want it to last long enough to be absolutely deadly I would advise escorting it. I usually pair 2 of them with a super carrier and form a task force around them.
