in WW2 the USA had the Sherman as there main battle tank and need a 5:1 ratio to beat a Panzer but because of the manufactory power of the USA these where built in bulk and where replaced very quickly

if the UNSC used this tactic using 5 or 6 planets to field multiple construction bays to build smaller ships at a faster rate than taking more time to build bigger ships do you think the UNSC would have had a better chance holding the covenant off?

I think not. The issue is it often takes more than one mac shot to bring down a Covie ship, so you need to survive long enough to fire 2 or more shots and smaller ships like frigates do not make it past one good hit from a Covie ship in the lore. You need a good mix of ships, just like in the mod, to allow for hitting AND staying power.

Of basically a huge army of Paris frigates vs the covenant.  I'm guessing you mean Paris. Them or destroyers. I have no idea who would win. I guess someone would have to try it in Sins.

i just got finished testing it out I had 200 paris class frigate against 5 cas and 80 ccs class and the paris class where completely whipped out

however I did the same thing except with 200 thantos class and the covenant was completely wiped out but losing half the fleet

I used the dev by the way to test this

also is there a way to turn fighters off in the dev build?

Damn, the Paris frigates lost. They're my favourite ship in ANY game or movie. I just love the Paris. They look amazing. I'm not surprised the Thantos won, they are pretty powerful. Any way, it's always been stated that the UNSC would generally win battles only if they outnumbered the covenant 3 to 1. Even then rarely.

Lore-wise the UNSC navy had neither the stayingpower nor the firepower to effectively combat the Covenant navy more than a handful of engagements.

Did you just send the fleets straight at each other and let the AI do the combat, or did you use special tactics?

While that's unfortunately true, that's not what we're shooting for.

It's not to difficult to come up with a good fleet mix for the UNSC....I've engaged max Covvie fleets and wiped them out with minimal losses.....assuming I've had time to prepare.

I have the same battle tactic. I always go with variety and diversity. A mix of everything can beat anything.

I have to say, few things are as amusing as sending an entire phalanx of Orions screened by destroyers headlong into a covvie fleet.

How do you make a phalanx in space?
