In regards to gasses, the barrel is sealed behind the projectile unitl it leaves the muzzle, so the atmosphere of the station is present in the barrel until it is fired. Gasses would still be present in terms of magnetic friction and any particle inside the muzzle when fired. Even rail guns, though a different system, still have large muzzle flashes and there is no propellant in a rail gun.

Sounds good to me, but I can't help but wonder how fast they run out of air if every time they fire the gun part of their atmo goes with it.. Seems easier to just have the magazine and barrel both airless.

Correct me if I'm wrong about all this, but aren't the SMACs stationed in space? In which case, there is no need to vent gasses as there wouldn't be any to begin with? A coilgun round doesn't have any propellant in it, so there should be no gaseous expulsions. Also, while the thing about conservation of momentum is correct, wouldn't Lenz's law make it so that the actual recoil received right after the shot be very little as it is distributed over a longer period of time? So it would actually be really easy to account for that with the adjusting jets they would already have on the station to keep it in geosynchronous orbit?
Imagine, if you will, a 12 kilometer wide asteroid traveling 20 kilometers per second. This is about the force of the impactor that kill the dinosaurs. Now imagine that asteroid hitting the business end of a SMAC. That's the kinda of recoil force we're talking about here.

Yeah, tbh I have no idea how the gasses would behave there. It's not exactly something that's been done before

It's possible the ambient heating from the coils vaporizes the skin of the slug, creating some gas in the barrel and making the slug appear white hot when it leaves the barrel.

Well we know how the power gets to the Station.
Well, firstly, the potato generates the power which is then sent into the SMACs via Staroads.
Now to figure out how it shoots garbage into the endless void. I'm fairly certain a SMAC is just two big sticks whacking a rock held together with Unobtainium with a ounce of space magic to give it that extra kick. They were built back when Johnson was around and we all know what he had to use way back when. Well, there you go, question solved.

Well in Halo 2, the MAC round is loaded into the muzzle without some type of seal, its just there.
