so recently i noticed that the only officially recognized supercarrier in the UNSC is the ugly as hell Punic (pubic) class, is that the result of 343 deciding to change things up or was there never actually a Thermopylae?

They never had a canon design. Sparth worked with Spartan Games to design it and the Epoch. Sparth being the guy who designed all the shitty Halo 4 ships as well. I got this information directly from Ken Peters at 343.

Definitely prefer the Thermopylae over the Punic. I'm really enjoying Fleet Battles so I'm trying pretty hard to like the ship designs, even the Epoch has grown on me, but the Punic just looks so underwhelming, little disappointed. I get the UNSC are meant to be the industrial, practical faction, but the Punic seems like lazy designing to me.

 

I keep hoping Spartan will take some inspiration from SoTP, but nope, the official blogs make it pretty clear that they want everything to show that they're building towards the post-war ships, which they unfortunately confirmed in a recent post will be added to the game in the future.

The URL article below contains a lot of new information about the future of Fleet Battles and speaks a little about the up-coming ground based game. Quite a bit of interesting stuff, lots of new ships for both factions, they pretty much confirm that the flood will be added at some point and the new commanders and heroes are pretty interesting to see fleshed out:

Couple of cool things about the ground based game:

• " We heard the call for crossover rules with Halo: Fleet Battles loud and clear, both with regard to playing out boarding actions in a ground game ‘sideboard’ and simulating orbital assaults. Using both games at once will be optional, due to the extra complexity and time involved.

• Interesting and unique factions are part and parcel of Halo, and you will be seeing more than just the Covenant and UNSC in the future . . ."

I was really hoping they would come up with a supercarrier that would knock ours out of the park, because I've always felt meh about ours. It's a massive brick, it looks tough, but mostly uninteresting. Instead they upscaled and kitbashed the Epoch.

Spartan has yet to showcase a ship that I prefer over the SoTP equivalent and there's not a lot of other new ships I could see them bringing in. You've spoiled us!

I agree, I would much rather have seen a canon CAR class, but alas SG feels the need to make more and more ships. 

 

The ADP is an interesting ship tho, if a bit odd in comparison to other ships in the Covenant from both a functional and visual POV.

Those smaller ships look interesting like them (maybe a bit to fat in the width). And that bigger one not quite sure whats supposed to be. looks weird with those 2 "domes".

it is a DCS class support ship, a popular ship of this class is the Infinite Succor.

Those are actually fascinating since they are used for defensive purposes.

I like the Punic. I kinda figured it would look something like that simply because its going to be a massive ship. Not to mention that it still pretty much follows its description. It is made to directly stand up against Covenant warships. This new Punic definitely looks like it can do that.
