Guys, guys, were getting a bit off topic here aren't we not? Anyway, in a defensive war humanity. If the humans went on the attack the forerunners. The humans would win a defensive war mostly because of the precursor tech and The Lord of admirals great tactics.

Reading up, my bet would be a massive stalemate that would end with no particular winner but with both sides suing for eventual peace.
On the other hand the war only started because of the flood, so no flood = no war
