I was thinking earlier if some sort of wave/survival mode could be done in Sins. You would have one planet and get resources for every enemy you kill which you can use to build ships, structures, planet upgrades or tech up. Every five or ten waves could be a boss level and after a boss level there could be a couple minutes to regroup your forces.

This is wildly impossible to recreate within the SoaSE engine. You're forgetting how much we're limited by hardcodes.

actually, i could see a weak workaround as a minimod. But no real "survival mode" would work...

There is hope, startdock is working on two new games. Maybe those will be more mod friendly with their hardcoding.
