we all know the UNSC can terraform (right?) well i thought that it could be a researched idea (especially with the new planets) which would be implemented with the colony ship.

this would therefore make the colony ship much more useful than it currently is (not saying it is not useful). i was thinking something like this

ice->water

water->terra

Larva->greenhouse

greenhouse->terra

barren->desert

porrus->desert

desert->terra

glassed->previous

and you can only terraform a planet once to make it fair.

Sincerely doubt this is possible until rebellion, even if then.

If it did work I would say it would have to take ridiculous amounts of time as a balance, and cost ungodly amounts of resources. Kind of like reverse Stripped to the Core.

I know, but Rebellion is a looong way off if we want a quality mod. I'm not slating you, it's a good idea; I'm just being realistic: I doubt it will happen any time soon.

I don't think changing planet types even in Rebellion with DLC is possible.

That would involve scuttling the planet in which you lose control of it.

As in I don't think you can terraform without having to recolonize the thing.

I don't know. I would have thought it would be possible to just give a ship an ability similar to the effect. I mean the AL titan can insta-grab a planet so maybe it could be a titan ability for whatever the equivalent of the Infinity would be for the other UNSC faction.

That said, the Vasari ability just goes: Generic planet --> Dead asteroid --> Asteroid belt. Specialisation between planets like this would be, I would have thought, virtually impossible. The tooltip/infocard alone would take up half a screen with descriptions. It's a good idea but it needs fine-tuning. But not yet.

People have trying to do that in like Star Wars mod with a Death Star.

It hasn't turned up any results so it's safe to say you can't wire it into a capital ship ability because hardcoding in both original and DLC.

I guess you could maybe switch the type it scuttles to but then again that could be hard coded as well.

Shame. I was wondering why we didn't have a death star yet, it seemed so obvious.

I really doubt that would work for so many reasons. Scuttling it just to change its type, aside from being kind of stupid in 'real life' terms, I expect would run into the problem of conflicting logics. Also, I doubt 'upgrading' a planet is particularly easy. Going to dead asteroid just involved destroying all logistic and tactical slots, then bumping all upgrades down to 0 along with population. Going the other way, it may be possible but I suspect far more complicated.

That said, I have no hard evidence to support it. As always I'm fully and gladly prepared to be proven wrong.

Programmatically, there is no way to differentiate between planet types for buff application, so that whole idea is pretty much not plausible...
