Hi all. No doubt you've seen the news: the Covvies are here and here to stay. While the Dev team are to be heartily congratulated and will no doubt take a hard-earned rest, the mod is still far from finished!
As such; here it is. Your place to post the bugs and errors you find in your playthroughs of this finely crafted masterpiece. Feel free to open your own threads for suggestions to be debated but please, keep this thread as clinical and clean as possible but use it as much as you can! This is how many of the playtesters, myself included, were forged and I know the leaders may well be looking for more to join our ranks!
A general guide to bug reporting:
Try and be precise: Don't give vague descriptions of occurrences.
Learn the lingo: You'll pick it up and people generally know what you're talking about, but it's good to know your particles from your meshes and your hardpoints. Terms like UI, GUI and such crop up a lot as well and just make certain things easier to locate.
Get a feel for what is hardcoded: less likely to happen in bug reporting, as most solutions are more remedial than anything. But for more obscure issues, try and realise when a suggested fix is impossible.
Check for repeats: if someone posted the same bug as you, it can be nice to confirm it but we don't need 20 people all saying that an icon is wrong. That said, if an issue hasn't been reported in a while and you're still getting it, especially between patches, it may be worth a bump.
Be considerate: some of the larger things, such as tech trees, have not been touched yet. This is deliberate, it will come as the mod progresses into its most glorious future.
Be happy with shouting into the abyss: Devs will not always acknowledge a bug has been posted but will try to. Always assume it's been received, eyes are everywhere.
If you want to post screenshots (please do, especially for graphics bugs or for clarification on models) you need to save screenshots and upload them to an image hosting website, as you can't copy and paste directly into the forums.
My personal preferred method is this:
- Take a screenshot, use your regular computer function and not Steam screenshots as they're harder to find.
- Go to Imgur, create/login to an account, ctrl-v or otherwise paste your image in, this should upload it. If not, try saving it through an editing program such as paint and upload it as a file.
- Select the image and right-click, click 'copy image URL'.
- Return to SotP. In the post toolbar (right above you as you type) click the image of the tree. Paste the URL in and this will be your image.
As a further word of advice, we like spoiler tags. Spoiler tags save memory and internet usage. When posting an image, try and make it into this format (with [square brackets] in place of the "speech marks"):
"spoiler"
(Your image URL)
"/spoiler"
All of this should contribute to a nice, tidy picture. If you can't get the hang of the spoiler tags, don't fear; either quote someone who has used them and copy them from there or, in the worst case, someone on the dev team will fix it for you; it's the pictures we really need!
Now go forth: annihilate the heretics or defend the human race to the last man. And be sure to post here if something goes wrong for you!
