The UNSC didn't have the luxury of following the standard principles of ship roles when the Covenant attacked. I'd definetly put double MAC guns and tons of archer missiles on a supercarrier if I known that fleet escorts do not stand well against covenant capitol ships.

Honestly the UNSC did everything wrong, they tried to fight numbers with more numbers. The only things that they did do right were their special forces units.

You can't defend using sheer numbers, so the point in having carriers would be stupid for reasons other than fleet support.

The point I'm trying to get across, is that I'm not going to leave a super carrier without weapon systems like a double MAC, knowing that in a combat situation, the covenant are going to intercept it.

I agree, and spectre, how on earth can you possible diss the fighting style that won them the war. without huge number the small fleet regret had would have just flew buy without a shot fired.

It didn't win them the war, The UNSC was defeated, pretty much. The only reason that we "won" is because we were good enough at everything and never good at one thing like the senghelli and the covenant.  The internal infighting in the covenant also won us the war. Imagine if there was no civil war.

Take two Armies for instance take the british army, long, brutal and enduring 41 week training, so gruesome that 1 in 30 end up permanently disabled. Good equipment, mediocre logistics, small numbers.

Now take the US army, 9 weeks training, Easy few obsi courses and very basic rifle training, minor indoctrination. "meh" equipment, the best logistic pool in the world, the 2nd largest army in the world.

Now strategists at west point and sandhurst have come to the conclusion, that if there a war on between these two nations it would end in stalemate.

Tell me what Nation (allegiances aside) would you rather fight in?

First of all AMERICA FTW! second, the UNSC WON THE WAR. Yes, the reason they won is because they were well rounded, but the Covenant lost, this was NO stalemate.

For the record - we have several US military folks here - bashing US Military training is probably not a way to make friends...

I feel like I've told you this before...

ok im done. The European does no understand me or our military. NOW CAN THIS END, IF I SAY I AM EMBARRASSED WILL THIS END?

Us British are not Europeans, that is an insult, its almost as bad as calling me English.

I understand a lot more about your own military than some of the americans on here, Its one of my jobs, consulting and advising the MOD councils.

I didn't simply join the army i was born in it, i was molded by it, i am it. -this modified quote quite simply sums me up.

Can we please not do this? Both of you quit it, but Spectre, this happens WAY too much with you. Sure, you may right in some areas, but you sure as hell aren't helping yourself with practicly refusing to see the points of the other side of the argument and continuing the argument aggress ivly. I'm pretty sure you don't mean it half the time, but come on, you saw what was coming when you compared British and USA military training.

EDIT: Now irrevalent in this topic.

Not sounding rude at all, Take for instance the nimtz, the enterprise and gerald R ford class supercarriers, they are most certainly badass ships, but they're not meant for combat. If they were to up against an outdated destroyer or frigate from about 100 years ago, they could still be defeated.

Just when some one says 'If you don't like it..' it is usually proceeded by 'Go f&*k yourself' so I was just getting the point across...

I came up with a Forerunner AI story a while back when I first learnt about this mod.  It was my attempt at a sort of background story for why the Forerunner stuff would be floating around and trying to conquer everyone [As they would be doing were I to be playing them *evil laugh*]  Well, here goes nothing:
