He said first casualty of the Human-Covenant war. Osmo's death was the very start of the war, thus making him the first casualty.

Lasky was training to be an officer ( it was an officer academy so he would be a CO not a regular groundpounder) at the Corbulo academy of military science on Circinus IV.
