I move that a Phoenix-class colony ship refitted to perform the functions that the UNSC Spirit of Fire did should be called an Assault Carrier instead of just a Carrier. It's primary concern outside of fleet engagement was the ground campaign. It did not appear to field a significant number of strikecraft and this space was apparently used to deploy ground and atmospheric based equipment.

This is in comparison to the UNSC Atlas, which is called a carrier, and performs in a role fitting for the designation.

I mention all this because I think the ship's class in the mod should be Phoenix-class Assault Carrier.

Technically, the SoF's class is "Modified Phoenix-class Colony vessel", which is not a class of warship and is more of a literal description of the ship. So, designating a class for it is not against canon unless canon changes

In most modern navies this class of ship would be called an assault ship not carrier so you could call it that as the UNSC at least in my opinion is based heavily on modern navies.

Since it deploys other smaller ships, it is a carrier, they just then descend to the surface, so it's not a strikecraft carrier. I think Assault Carrier is the best description, it also works as an analogue for the Covenant's Assault Carrier at least in nomenclature, if not stats. (Definitely not stats.)

Sorry I'm still trying to figure out how to properly use this on my new phone. Anyways Naval vessels due this quite often. USN assault ships carry landing craft, strike craft (Harriers and Cobras) as well as prefab bases for deployment on the beach or inland. I understand your point it just seems to like the name of assault ship would fit better.
