It just means many SMAC platforms built closely to one another, such that they make an area impassable to enemy units, as a wall does.

its when you take a large number of SMACs and put them on the border of the gravity well, making a "Wall" against enemy attacks. More likely than not, you will have to replace a few SMACs after every battle, and this is just a waste of resources. My SMAC "Curtain" idea (similar to Uni's SMAC defense in the livestream, but uses sabres as well) is far more efficient and far more successful for defending the planet itself

It's not the planet I want to defend, it's the route to my inner colonies.

I'm not going to have a slap fight about this, but I showed how to do this in our first livestream, so it's not a new invention by you. lol

the difference between our defenses is that mine include sabres as well :P

If it makes you feel better, my defensive strategy was highly inspired by what you did in the live stream, i just added in the sabre component

I wish you could see my face right now, because it's expressing significant doubt at that statement.
Any wall/curtain/grav-well hugging line of SMACs is going to be easy picking for a dedicated fleet to break through with a little maneuvering.

against large battlegroups, my defenses would be destroyed, i completely agree with this. However, with a large fleet to support the defenses, the battle could be won.

no strategy is perfect, so any defense can be overcome if you have the right tactics

There are these cheap ships called scouts and anti-strikecraft frigates.

And that's why we utilize carriers.

Pretty sure you can spam scouts more than you can kill with strikecraft.

And by spamming scouts you sacrifice a decent fleet size.

the problem with scout spamming, right here. you need a well balanced fleet to survive engagements. scout spam is a great..... distraction

I always use layered MACs involving having 3 to 4 levels of MACs that cover the whole gravity well. I also usually deploy a star base solely for the mass fighter defense.

Pretty sure my fleet supply isn't going to take too much of a hit by spamming like 10-20 scouts just to clear a minefield. Especially if you're just sitting there waiting for the inevitable strike.

Nobody said the scout spam was actually with the fleet.

Also, mines are generally a useless defense especially when you can just take the scouts and run them through to detonate if you can't be bothered about actually clearing.

The fact you're taking time to build up this defensive field leaves up alternate avenues of approach anyways.

10-20 ships with no weapons to clear a minefield of 150 mines before they get torn apart by my 10+ SMAC grid or the 10+ squads of Longswords.

I fortify before I meet anyone else.

Good luck.
