If you are smart with it you can use the epic gang rape of the Mac round salvo to your advantage. A bit of tactics and a few brave men and women aboard a couple of frigates to take one for the team can help inflict some serious damage into an enemy fleet. Or you can just use musket tactics and just go hell for leather in a head on and see who has the strongest fleet.

one word. Nukes.

I agree that it is a problem that the firepower of a fleet is usually wasted on one ship at a time in Sins. However, a possibly solution (tactics wise at least) is to break your fleet into separate smaller "battle groups" and have each of them attack a specific target. I used this tactic to overcome an enemy fleet with multiple capital ships many times. This would be specifically important for the UNSC since it takes a great deal of firepower to even slow down a Covenant vessel.

i think it would depend on the MAC being used. For example, im pretty sure a fleet of orions could decimate any covenant vessel up to the Assault Carrier in one volley

This won't be the case when we actually start balancing the Covies again.

I might be the odd one out but I don't think that the MAC fire is wasted IF you are using the fleet system right that is...

Well this is kinda unrelated, but is there any way to make a ship in a defencive position not completely turn to fire at fighters while a fleet of vessels are coming at it. This happens with my orions all the time.

When you select a unit or several units, select the Tactics Management icon, then select the Set Engagement Range icon to cycle through the options of Gravity Well, Local Area, and Hold Position.
