I really loved her Republic Commando series, and the Kilo-Five series is amazing too

I wrote Karen Travis a letter saying that she was my inspiration for writing and she emailed me back.

Yeah, I once wrote her an e-mail as well, she also replied, it was after I read the Republic Commando series

I should've put this in my last post but, when she emailed me back, I had a little geek-out moment. This was three or four weeks ago.

Well, it isn't that much, haha
But oh well
Hi Stephan. Thank you -- I'm really glad you enjoyed it.I won't be returning to SW, I'm afraid. Even if the canon was changed back to what it was originally, I would still not want to work for the book publisher again because of the problems I had with payments and contracts. That's nothing to do with Lucasfilm -- it's another company.I hope you'll try my other books and comics, because they'll give you the same reader experience.BestKT

Here's her reply. It's not as long but it still gave me a geek-out moment.

WHY YOU HATE IT?
THEY'RE THE BEST BOOKS, I ACTUALLY LIKED THE CHARACTERS. Mal and vaz are great and should definitely return as SIVs.

To be fair I have NOT finished it. I've read Thursday war and Grasslands. But her Characters just... don't click with me. maybe because i'm not a spy/ONI type of guy. Besides from that the lack of knowledge she had when writing the books or atleast her 'not wanting to know the lore.' I'll still buy the last book and reread them but I don't 'jump' on the wagon.
On a different note, I DID fucking love her work in Gears of War.

Its probably because the characters are actually lifelike. Mal and Vaz remind me of so many people i know.
She did learn the lore, I'm not sure where that absurd accusation came from.

Learning and acting on it are two different things and they don't seem more lifelike. They seem.... too human to be human. -minus the Spartan-

I think its the different way in which American and European storytelling differ. European its all about the characters and how they feel, american its more about the surrounding and the feel of the setting. I felt that all the other books just droned on a bit.

Because all Americans and all Europeans write in those respects.

It was a generalisation. I would prefer to have a much longer story that does both. But publishers would go bust paying per word.

I was just making a comment because all of your comparisons have something to do with America vs. UK or some iteration of the UK vs. the world. It gets old. Now if you compared writing styles of say Eric Nylund specifically to Karen Traviss, or a multitude of authors, it would be different. Making the generalization Americans vs. Brits is just getting old.
