Throwing this out here to test the water.

We're soon going to be adding more variety to planet types, which will presumably include some more cold planets. Given that Unggoy are the primary workforce of the Covenant and they breed at insane rates in methane-based atmospheres, I see the potential for a methane atmosphere planet type (worded more elegantly in-game, of course) where after the Covenant research the taming of the Unggoy these planets have massive buffs to their population (total and growth rate).

This allows for more tactical decisions for their opponents as well as an econ buff for the Covenant itself. Does the UNSC risk a fleet in attacking this planet to reduce the fighting force of the Covenant? Does the Covenant station a fleet nearby to defend it and the buffs they gain from it?

SotP is always focused on adding more tactical depth to the game and I think this is an interesting idea to at least discuss...

UNSC Inner, outer colonies, ONI test planets, military training planets, and fortress worlds is what i would like to see.

In my personal opinion i think that when the covenant should only be able to colonise a planet (or certain types), and make it productive (not make a loss from taxes) after a very, very large investment.

Many of the best Covenant players (chiefship and myself are especially guilty of this) skip the majority of planets anyway, and spend the money on fleets.

Also what kind off buffs? production rate would seem most logical, or perhaps population (what does the population mechanic do anyway?)

I think it sounds like a good idea that both good in gameplay's respects and good to the lore. The only thing I see that might be a problem is on a map where there's an abundance of methane planets which would make the Covenant uber powered over the UNSC

I think it'd add a higher strategical value to some planets for the Covenant, I hope the UNSC gets similar planets

But how will it effect the fighting force of the Covenant or will it only harm the economy?

This would be a population boost only, which increases credit revenue. Sins is limited in what we can do buff-wise, so we can't have them actually boost fighting.

<kind of related>:

In this post: https://www.facebook...&type=1

There are so many people suggesting so much stuff that is actually in game (or at least semi implemented) shield worlds, reach, glassed reach and others. It irritated me.

We don't have Reach, Shield Worlds, or any of those anymore.

I wiped them out just I left them in the galaxyscenario file.

I noticed, shield world reminded me of Coruscant

I like Specter's idea of "Green House Planets" for the UNSC - to balance the cold planets for the Covenant.

Also, I think it's a great idea to create different bonuses for planet types, both for the Covenant and for UNSC.

So I say - go for it! .. ^_^

I'm also trying to think of other types of planets that might go well for either faction, but I can't get anything out of my poor, tired brain - So I'll get back to you on that! .. xD

And to Rovert10 .. Why did you remove the Shield Worlds and how 'bout glassed planets? >_<

At least the Shield Worlds would create a huge tactical advantage ..?

Glassed planets might have nothing but artifacts on them? ..

I'm just throwing stuff in the air now, I know .. I don't even know if the game engine would allow for any of this! :P

Isn't there a tech for the Advent for reducing research time and cost? Is it possible to put this on a planet buff in some form? I.e. there being forerunner ruins or whatnot on the planet.

Help me Sergeant I'm lost in Kurfluffle land!

Because there's was nothing in them. Like they were there as a placeholder but never replaced.

Theoretically, it is possible to make an ability such that it boosts the combat efficiency of the controlling player, if they are of a given race.

In that case reach was a awesome placeholder in terms of look and detail

Yay, progress!

But yeah. I like this idea, I'm fairly certain someone had an idea back that humanity should be able to spread like a virus onto things like asteroids though, maybe even colonising dead asteroids?

Slightly off topic, but in keeping with the planet types, is it possible to have a Covenant research where it turns an owned planet into a glassed planet? I was thinking along the lines of the Vasari planet strip. It would make an interesting scorched earth tactic.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
