Someone I knew had a theory back a few days ago when I showed him this
Chief having lost cortana will try to convince someone to help him find her or just keep him covered while he escapes from ONI and the UNSC, then ONI will send the 3rd only HLV to kill or capture John and while this new Spartan may have fancy tech he does not have the combat expirience of John who fought a 30 year war, so in the end the new HLV dies since he relied to much on his tech and John kicked his ass or the HLV steals Cortana off John at the end of 5 and we need to kick both his ass and the Didact/Forunners in H6 and retrive cortana but then we get a cliche John died saving the galaxy moment or something along those lines.
That was the email I just copied and pasted it from what he sent me I just edited it down to the important bits.

If Halo Escalation is anything to go by, the Didact is still alive and is responsible for cracking Chiefs (judging from the cover). This may play a part in the next Halo. Chief could have been tracking down the Didact when he was travelling through he desert shown in the E3 2013 Teaser Trailer. However, I personally doubt that Chief went rogue, since all SPARTANs were essentially indoctrinated to have unwavering loyalty to Humanity.
I guess, we will have to wait till E3 before 343 reveals anymore.

true with the Spartan IIs indoctrination they did develope an unwavering loyalty to the UNSC hence the reason they were drafted as children(no previous ties to any world or organisation that could split their loyalty or turn them against the unsc, not many 6 year olds would) but you have to consider the Chiefs own morality, his sense of right and wrong, perhaps he has changed over the years and now wont follow orders blindly, he even refused a direct order from a commanding officer when DelRio ordered him to turn over Cortana. The Chief may not like what the UNSC or more speciffically what ONI is changing the UNSC into, consider Kilo 5's mission in the books- destabilising an alien ally, exploring the possiblity of the genocide of the Sangheli race, the UNSC is starting down a dark path and the Chief may not want to be a part of it so in their eyes he would seem to have gone rogue, interesting to see the UNSC become the villain in this story, kind of puts that Museum of Humanity idea from Halo 3 in the bin.

Yes, but I still believe his loyalty to Humanity is there. He disobeyed Del Rio's orders as he needed Cortana to stop the Didact and ultimatly protect Humanity. While I disagree with ONI's destabilisation of the Sangheili, it makes sense for them to do so. The Sangheili did take part in the genocide of Humanity. If Humanity adopted the Mantle of Responsibility, then the possible geneocide of the Sangheili and even the destabilisation shouldn't be happening. I'm thinking that large elements if the UNSC will retain its orignal mission, and if anything it is ONI and the ONI influenced sections of the UNSC that will go rogue.
However, I agree with your point that it will seem that Chief has gone rogue in the eyes of ONI. I'm guessing Chiefs opinion of Osman and ONI isn't very high after the attempted assassination of Halsey.
It all seems to be going back to Humanty's age old instinct, War. Maybe a civil war between various groups inside the UNSC. Good points you made there.

I think that jhon would leave if he felt like it was the right thing to do. However, he is a sparten and loyal to the death, so i would have to be somthing big.

Personally I think Master Chief is manipulated by the Librarian to go on a quest to fulfill a grander plan through his need to save Cortana. But Chief doesn't know that, he just want's to save Cortana all the while beeing pushed by his reawakened gene-song.
Meanwhile Hood, Osman and Arby need the chief to return to operate the Janus key or somesuch because they need some doomsday device in order to fight the resurgent Flood. So this new ONI operative is dispatched to track John down and bring him back. BUT behind the scenes ONI is trying to replace Master Chief with the operative and this alternative agenda backfires at some point putting everything at risk, UNSC-Arby alliance, the repository, everyones survival etc.
Both Johns storyline and the operatives storyline entwine at some point because Johns quest is needed to operate the doomsday device successfully.
One half of the game is played through Johns eyes and the other half through an increasingly conflicted ONI operative

First off, I'm going to start with what we know:
- This Agents name is Locke
- He's having a conversation with the Arbiter about finding John
- The Arbiter thinks John is important in some way
I'm of the opinion that the UNSC (Led by Admiral Hood) is going to be waging a shadow war of some sort against ONI once they realise that ONI is populated solely by the biggest aresholes in the universe. In the meantime, Locke is sent on a mission to recover John to act as a figurehead for one of the opposing factions while both the Storm Covenant, the Servants of the Abiding Truth and the Human Insurrection prepare to come in and wreck the UNSC's shit as a whole. Locke and John may be forced to make a decision between their orders, their duty to humanity and in the case of John, their own personal wants.
I don't know about anyone else, but I think ONI is unintentionally pushing the UNSC towards a civil war and actually aiding in the solidification of Sanghelios. At this point, I hope that the "Humanity First" faction of the UNSC (i.e. not ONI, who seem to be doing everything they can to ensure that they stay in power) and the Arbiters faction of Elites join up to take upon themselves the Mantle of Responsibility.
I'm also kind of hoping that the Iso-Didact will make an appearance at some stage, since he survived the Halo event and went with the remainder of the Forerunners into exile.

I'm not really sure how the Chief would get away from the UNSC, probably another Lasky intervention. I doubt it would be about him trying to find Cortana, but more likely him trying to find the Librarian the same way Halsey talked to the Librarian. The game will probably focus on him hunting down and destroying the remainder of the Ur-Didact's presence, while this new ONI operative is tasked with finding him because the UNSC already found the Janus Key. I would say Cortana's influence on the game would be pretty slim since she's gone forever.

I am getting a Metal Gear Solid 2 vibe from this, were you play as the main character- chief/snake in the first chapter then you start the story with a new character with a fresh perspective- Locke/Raiden and cross paths with him, you also cant be sure of the chiefs motives towards you as being the chief you wont know how he percieves Locke- friend, foe or a pawn to be used as raiden was in MGS2 to help Snake board Arsenal Gear so the MC we've played as for all these years could still surprise us and be a complete unknown when he and Locke finally meet face to face.

well that was interesting and possibly not only the best way to fuck with john(halo5 is gonna be pretty dark accroding to 343) but maybe also scare the shits out of people

I think 343 plans on at least letting the flood have a sort of presence in halo 5, such as the UNSC learning of the nature of the infection. The master chief may be taking on Mendicant Bias (Greg bear narrative i think) in the teaser trailer, under the UNSC's orders, since mendicant bias, like Cortana on the mantles approach, was shattered into multiple pieces, and reassembled by a gravemind, as well as interacting with a gravemind like cortana on high charity. When you look at Halo: The masterchief Collection trailer, during the agent locke and arbiter conversation, a picture of john looking at the forerunner machine in the desert is seen. This proves that Locke has an idea of the showdown between John and the machine.
