Ok, so in response to the million comments I got on one tiny status I figured this was a relatively hot topic. My apologies if it's been discussed in any degree of detail so far, but I couldn't find a recent threat on the topic:

In short, it seems no-one fears the flood anymore. And anyone with even the tiniest knowledge of Halo knows this is wrong. The flood should make you PISS yourself with fear if even a single ship appears in your gravity well, but an entire army...

I was all for removing infection research, however, the new flood pirate invasion waves severely lack the fear-factor they used to carry, especially after the early game stage once nukes start getting thrown around. For a start the attacks just fracture into groups now making it easy for strike craft to pick off planet bombarders while the others get nuked to hell. Which brings me to the next point: nukes destroy almost all of the section I'm ever even slightly worried about. And I know they nerfed the xp but my Valiant still went from level 2-6-10 in two waves. To be honest, I wouldn't be against removing xp almost altogether.
However, having yet seen a decent covenant fleet against the flood I am interested to see what would happen. I like to think the covvies are going to have a harder time against our slithery foes without a decent splash damage weapon in their inventory.

Aside from the XP issue, I would recommend making the late and mid game flood invasions much more scary, I think I heard they're getting a coloniser which sounds awesome, especially if they could actually begin to join the game as pseudo-faction but my other recommendation would be for them to have an anti-strike-craft ship incorporated into the fleet, because to be honest, nukes are good but I can decimate (yes, actually decimate, not obliterate, look it up please) a flood invasion force with an anchor station before they even get in range.

Thoughts?

Having the flood being a permanent third party AI would be awesome. The colonizer sound super scary but it also will need to be tested thoroughly. Otherwise while you are expanding the flood could already control like all the planets you come across in a region. The is heaps of potential though, can't wait to see how this pans out.

They should increase the amount of health the ships have so it's hard to kill, and maybe remodel them so they look like covie/UNSC ships that have been infected by flood.

That is what I suggest a while back. Don't make completely new models for the flood. Modify the UNSC and Covy models so they look broken down, decrepit, and generally more floody. Also be cool if you put 'growths' on the ships. Like spore pods and tentacles and gas backs and other things.

im pretty sure the flood are still waiting for their time in the sun, meaning a time when they are going to get more ships added to their fleets, such as capital ships

YES

Once you realize the flood lose to nukes every time, it pretty much boils down to, do you have enough nukes? If yes, then you win hands down boom deded. If no then run to the nearest fleet of cap ships with nukes and reclaim your world.

The flood strength throughout the match stays pretty constant. It would be interesting to see maybe 2 waves of flood ships the first wave somewhat smaller, and the second larger. That would make you conserve your nukes and actually force you to think about the attack a bit more. But they definitely need to be beefed in some way late game.

I still remember the first time I saw the flood and I ran like a coward. The second time I saw the flood I nuke the crap out of it, and I remember thinking, wow not as scary as i thought . . .

Help me Sergeant I'm lost in Kurfluffle land!

Currently, the flood are no where near as scary as they are in Halo CEs level 343 Guilty Spark. Anyone ever play that level as a 10 year old?

Was that before the days of magnum headshots? I can't remember, it's been a while since CE has graced my life. In 3 all I needed was a magnum and a fist of iron.

Halo: CE magnum was beast. And if you hit combat forms in the right place they go down in one shot.

Ahh the magnum/ shotgun combo. Got you out of any sticky flood related debacle you might get into. I miss duel welding needlers in halo 2 also. Got you out of any debacle. Period.

Flood are underestimated for one main reason-you can either pick them off as they cross planet after planet or identify and scuttle all structures at the targeted planet. This was an old dirty way with dealing with flood.

Im suggesting that the flood have either a colonizing form or have all bombardment forms have the ability to colonize. Im more into the 2nd option.

This will make you lose territory, flood will be able to attack from that planet. That way they don't retreat to the flood home planet but instead stay to defend. In the next raid, they may spawn from that planet an invading flood fleet to attack the next targeted planet and repeat the process.

That or basically make planets uninhabitable after flood bombardment...

Easy fix.

We should make it so they can only attack planets that have already been conquered, just so it doesn't fudge the game play. Easy way would be to make innies and flood allies and have innies 'colonize' all planets they orbit. You then set the default innie planet health to 1 or 0.

Innie's and Flood allies, I don't think so, it would ruin the game. Flood should have 1-3 planets per star, making it easier for them to spread.
