Hi all

Dianno here and Im here to chew bubblegum and kick ass and im al out of bubblegum.

no really im here to tell everyone about the Faction design and the pros and cons to each faction thus far.

The UNSC, the military arm of the UEG. This faction will best be described as a 'jack of all trades'. They will boast good numbers, good fighters and good medium sized ships. This faction will excel in numbers and will need them to win battles in non friendly space. Their Capital ships are ho hum lack luster and are really just upgraded versions of in service ships. Capitals provide more utility than straight up destruction to the enemy (save the orion). Where the UNSC really shine is defense. Boasting Anchor stations, sabre fighters, and the force to be reckoned with SMAC that can take out covenant ships in one hit. The UNSC shine on defense and are fast in system, But beware of their lack of slip space technology and plan accordingly

Overall:

+ Superb Defense

- Lack luster Capital ships

- Needs numerical advantage

- Slip space technology

+ Early Economy

The Covenant, A group of races bound together by a fanatical faith lead by A religious hierarchy. This faction is our 'best of the line' faction. Their ships and Capital ships know no bounds to the amount of holy vengeance they will deal upon their unfortunate adversaries. Their fighters are nothing special to talk about and they have NO DEFENSES in the classic sense and will need to rely on their technological advanced ships and ability to slip space faster than most opponents to coordinate their offensive and defensive maneuvers with their fleet.

Overall:

- No Defense

+ Awesome Capital ships

+ Awesome Fleet ships

- Ho Hum fighter support

- Late Economy

+ Fast slipspace

The Forerunner remnant. The forces set on denying humanity's rise to ascension, this remnant boasts almost no medium ships. Its all sentinels controlled by large capital ships capable of destroying fleets by themselves. Their fighters will overwhelm you, although weak individually.

Overall:

+ Capital ships

- no medium ships

+ Fighters in hordes

+ Weaponry

- Lack of empire and economy

Pretty sure they wont need medium ships anyway, anyone who has fought a vanguard in the wormhole gravity well can agree with me on this

To be honest, this kind of defense platform would be better fit for the forerunners. The problem is, forerunners dont have the same design scheme as the covenant. For instance, compare this model to the forerunner particle cannon from halo 4.

Yes, because that platform looks just like that - highly angular and planar with floating bits and the like...

Anyways, the model is already skinned so it's a take it or leave it kind of deal.

The covies have defense, but its more like putting up an electric fence to stop a tank.

There are references in both novels and video games that their defensive capabilities to stop another space faring civilization are limited to their ships

Carefully read my post... did i not say that the covenant did NOT have the same design scheme as the forerunners? My point was that the CONCEPT of a defense platform such as that is more fitting of the forerunners, not covenant.

Except for the fact it has a Covenant style texture.

Yeah,  but my point is, it has no real place in the mod. Just ask Dianno. Hes done a lot of research into the matter to make sure the mod is as canon as possible.

there ARE going to be defenses, but there wont be defense turrets or the like. Basically your defenses as the covenant will be a small fleet of frigates/cruisers

I don't see how the covenant would be able to defend against attack properly. If you have a small fleet at every world then the huge UNSC will most likely bash through and it's safe to assume that players usually only defend frontier worlds. Meanwhile a huge covenant fleet will be heavily damaged or destroyed by the huge amount of SMAC's and small defence group.

ok, and this is where the covenant have the advantage.

The Covenant

Overall:

+ Fast slipspace

Compared to the UNSC, the covenant go lightning fast through slipspace. I dont have the numbers, but you can bet that, if you spot a UNSC fleet approaching, you can get reinforcements there in no time.

Wouldn't the covenant still be vulnerable to a multi-pronged attack?
