Food for thought though.

I'm really partial to the idea of a station attached to an asteroid with mini-smacs that orbit it. SMACs get their power from ground based stations, so really the only way to get near-SMAC power is from something semi-ground based, like a series of reactors embedded into an asteroid. Nice big asteroid would hold people too, so it could explain the colony pod upgrades and all that jazz.

Why not a small moon. Kinda like the lunar equatorial defence and habitat ring from starship troopers?

I really like the model, it kinda resembles how the UNSC are scrambling to find something to stop the covenant. same goes fro the moon idea, it is still soundly built and constructed, but it shows humanity willingness to try anything.

It is though, Right? i may be wrong but isnt that a acnor station tied to the smac?

And specter, i have a idea, what if the station was moved to the right a bit, so the SMAC barrel is sticking out inbetween those "gaps" inbetween the stations sections. I think that would look a bit better. But again, thats just me.

Sorry guys, but a station that small cannot power a SMAC. Whatever Omega Station is, it won't be that. Good try though.

I got a idea, what about a structure resembling a plus, with a large spire facing down wards. On the end of each segment of the plus is 4 point defense guns and one mac (NOT A SMAC) and on the bottom spire are numerous hangar bays, then in the center of the plus is something like a Hexagon shaped control center with antennas ontop.
I posted this earlier but still like this idea a lot, so i thought id bring it back up

Again we just stick a ton of Shivas on the thing.

I had another idea shape wise for the station, a big docking ring with 4 sections resembling the big tower in the anchor station on each end. Has no macs, but archers and onagers, i dont like this idea as much as my previous, but still sounds cool for another concept in my opinion.

Gonna go ahead and throw my $20 here. Gamma station as the second station, is, to me, a bad idea. We need a second station that is actually a functional starbase
Omega Station
I immediately thought Omega but apparently so did you.

I remember you specifically talking about omega station before i was even a member.

My 2¢:
The Anchor station covers the Starbase role for the UNSC pretty well, while being utterly canon is how useful large defensive structures would be against a superior foe like the Covenant. Additionally, the only reason SMACs tend to be effective is they can be spread out and provide stacking layers of fire. A massive conventional combat oriented SoaSE-style starbase would be a station that would requires obscene amounts of energy and defensive technology to support it and to have it not be utterly eviscerated in combat within the first volley. Just seems to me that the SMACs, Orbital Hangars, and Anchor stations cover our bases pretty well, and we'd be trying to force something that seems mildly unfeasible with my understanding of the universe.
This station that you're currently posturing about might fit in the post-war period though, which I admittedly have trouble wrapping my mind around after being in the Human-Cov war mindset for so long.

This seems much more in line with what seems possible with their technology and usual strategies. I'm infinitely more in favor of this than a floating block of titanium with MAC turrets grafted on.

STA3's Federation faction also has 2 starbases, an early one basically to extend trade routes, then a late tier spacedock that is the true SoaSE style beast. The question one must ask themselves is this: If the UNSC built something intended to repel a small fleet, what could they afford to build and what would it entail?
Which led me to the asteroid idea. It's armor built in by virtue of the structure. It could support a dry dock to build ships, hold a lot of people, sustain damage, room for power generation, etc. It's the only one that makes sense to me. A dinky station of titanium would boil off very quickly.

The only other way to go would be to give the space station shields but until we find out more about the integration of forerunner/covenant tech into the UNSC, I'd advise against it.

After this long and very enjoyable, both from a viewing and participating point of view, im with uni the asteroid is the only close to cannon thing we can get.
