ok, but you do realize this argument is about the ship having shields, and thats mainly due to the fact that, no matter what the ship does, shields will disrupt physical objects (such as drop pods, transports, and fighters) from passing through

Not necessarily, it depends on the density of the shields.

Ships from Star trek and mass effect have much  more dense shields, albeit they are probably weaker.

Ships from star wars and halo have less dense shields, resulting in shields that act like fluids, while they can take less Direct energy, they can be recharged much faster.

Mass Effect ships aren't equipped with energy shielding, they're equipped with Kinetic Barriers. There's a big difference.

Star Wars shields are completely different from halo shields. Halo shields are not nearly as advanced or diverse (power armor with shielding is common in star wars, and there are types of shields that block different kinds of things, for example). Like bornstellar said, Mass Effect "shields" are not shields at all, but kinetic barriers. Even the Reapers had kinetic barriers and not shielding.

If you really want to get into Star Trek shielding then their composition is made up of Gravitons. Essentially a gravity field is emitted to deflect all the nasty stuff hitting the ship such as phasers and asteroids. However if the Gravitons are destabilised enough, i.e a ton of hits then they begin to collapse and can cause damage to the generators due to the strain. More power to the shields allows more Gravitons to be utilised to reinforce the shields however this usually results in loss of power to weapons and such. As shields got more advance the distance of which they could be projected increased, by the 24th century bubble shields were common. Though during the Dominion war these weren't practical because of the proximity of the ships so they resorted back to skin hugging ones for the duration.

Less direct energy? Pray tell what turbolasers, ion cannons, and laser cannons are?

Less energy directly.
Also ion weapons would only work on open barefaced systems.

Hardly any, kinetic barriers prevent kinetic energy from shattering a ship, as do shields.

Cross-universe comparison of technologies is really stupid. They all work differently, there is no solid way to judge them against one another. Let's get back to stuff before SPECTRE made noises with his meat flaps.

In my head all British sound like Hugh Laurie until proven otherwise, so yeah, when I read your writing I hear a voice. Pretty sure everyone has internal monologue...

Us British change our voice depending on who we speak to.
Sometimes I sound like prince Henry.
Other times I sound like Ross kemp. ( actually met both)

Kinetic barriers only stop kinetic projectiles, not energy weapons.

Remember the first mission of ME3, where the alliance dreadnaught has a standoff with the larger type of reaper?

Well it lasted a couple of minutes of energy weapon fire.

Plus kinetic barriers are used in body armour, Now if i recall correctly all firearms in ME (apart from the mass accelerator style SRs) use superheated metals (which has the same properties as plasma weaponry.)

Also remember the particle beam weapons? yeah well they're negated by kinetic barriers also.

The only difference is that kinetic barriers stop projectiles going above a dangerous velocity, whereas regular shields will stop things at lower velocities.

Reaper beams fire high velocity particles of uranium, travelling at or near the speed of light. Still a kinetic based weapon

Evrything fired out of a firearm is a kinetic projectile.

Take plasma for instance, it uses kinetic energy to damage a target, but the projectile is energised so that it has a greater impact.

HEAT and APEI rounds are energy weapons.

Nope. The heat and stuff are what damages the target. Not the kinetic collision.

Nope. The heat and stuff are what damages the target. Not the kinetic collision.

People said that about people being hit by bullets, its not the blood loss that will kill you its the shock it does to you.

Its still a kinetic weapon the shock of being hit by it will do far more damage than the heat does alone, the heat and radiation only maximises its damage.

Reaper beams fire high velocity particles of uranium, travelling at or near the speed of light. Still a kinetic based weapon

Also i reffered to the prothean beam weapons, pure radiation as an energy weapon.

Took one page to derail. Color me impressed.

Should I start a "random shit goes here" thread now?
