Can i remind you Imperial ships of the 18th century were the first to be armored and even then they were still boarded or sunk.
And that the infinities weaponry volley not only penetrated the Mantles approaches hull, But probably bought down its shields too.
And it wasn't a CRS it was a RCS class.
It rammed the RCS. Now after you get Infinity's point defense MAC grid back online you see several of them fire on and destroy an unshelled CRS. BTW when a covenant ship has it's shields up it in general cannot be boarded. The only way to get beneath the shields is to slipspace jump for troops beneath them (the promethian knights) or to have troops dive through the split second gap that opens a when a weapon is fired (what chief and highs boarding party did to a covenant frigate in Fall of Reach). One is way to advanced for the UNSC to do and the other is almost impossible to do in fact out of all the S-2s that attempted to board the frigate 3 made it below the shields. So basically this is not the naval combat of today very few thing apply from modern naval warfare or previous naval battle to how combat is done in space. It is a total three dimensional sphere of battle. By the way Infinity had quite some time to charge up her slipspace capacitors before that emergency jump. It was an emergency jump because the were very close to a star and did not have time to secure from battle stations.

So if you cant capture covenant ships why is it in the mod?
And Shaw fujikawa engines don't use capacitors or they would only be able to enter for a moment.
It must draw power directly from the engine, to keep such an enormous power drain running.

Uh, m4. Only three S-II's tried to board the covie frigate and they did so successfuly.
Nope all of the S-2s attempted only 3 made it aboard. The rest were recovered by their pelecan.

I have a feeling that i am wrong somewhere in that.
I think there are contradictions on what happened in some of the books. But either way sam was MIA.

Sam died on that boarding mission. His Mjolnir was penetrated and he was unable to go EVA to go back to the pelican.

The capacitors are used to provide the extra power needed to punch a hole from real space into slipspace after that the ship is contained in a protective field generated by the "drive" to protect the ship from slipspace. Drive is in quotes because the drive itself does not propel the ship it just opens the portal for lack of a better term and safeguards the ship, the ship's actual engines do the propulsion part.So if you cant capture covenant ships why is it in the mod?

I think Infinity would have had quite an impact on the fight though probably would not have remained in action for long.
It would have deployed its Spartan 4s ground side to protect the reactors once they came under attack, saving much of the spartan 2s that were used, it also would have been able to launch enough craft to protect the pelicans while they headed ground side. The autumn still would have dealt with the nav data but would have still been forced to random jump to Halo..... with 20+ spartans 2s in tow meaning the covie are so screwed at Installation 4.
Unfortunately the amount of ships the Covenant had would still overwhelmed Infinity the fleet and the SMacs, though Infinity's shields and most likely the sacrifice of UNSC ships as meat shields would have kept the Infinity alive long enough for it to escape.
All Spartan 4s probably would have been lost and Catherine Halsey as well... and that Admiral dude and his Nova Bomb thing. Meaning the Covenant get the crystal thing they were looking for though what good it would have done is unknown though, possible the Spartan 2s could have come back in time to save her.

I think the best use of Infinity would be as a ground support unit. It could have battered the weaker vessels and maybe some of the stronger ones, buying more time for evacuation. As it is a colossal ship, it could have transported a lot of people off-world. Having it there would be a kick in the nuts for the Covenant, but in the end, there was little any fleet in the UNSC could do against that force.
